Q. What is
'royalty-free' music? |
|
|
| A.
Generally speaking,
'royalty-free' is music that does not qualify for
royalty payments (sometimes referred to as
residuals). The composer does not stand to
make any financial gains after the sale of the
song(s) to the end user. This is one reason
royalty-free music CD's are priced more than
commercial CD's. |
|
|
| Q.
...so how can I benefit
from your Royalty-free music? |
|
Q.
I live outside the US
and Canada; If I want to buy more than 1 CD, do I
need to purchase 'Extra Shipping' for each
additional CD? |
| A.
The shortest answer: By
not having to purchase a PRO (ASCAP, BMI, SOCAN,
etc.) license. Depending on your gig, if you
were to use commercial music you would need to
purchase a license for every song you use, either
individually or by blanket licensing. PROs
require this so the composers of that music get
paid. The type of license(s) could run well
into the $1,000's; our whole catalogue is well under
$400, and you can use it for as long as you'd like
--never having to pay any royalties. On top of
all that, all our tracks were designed for
magicians. |
|
A.
No. You only need
to purchase 'Extra Shipping' once, regardless of how
many CDs are in your shopping cart. On your
next Opus 1 shopping trip, however, you will need to
purchase another 'Extra Shipping' charge.

| Q.
Can I use Opus 1's music in a promo or instructional
video I'm selling? |
|
Q.
How DO I register my CD?
(updated 5/7/2010) |
| A. Yes
you can. When you purchase Opus 1 music,
you're purchasing the rights to use it (similar to
the license agreement when you purchase software); our music is copyrighted,
so even though you own a license to use it however
you want to, you can't call it your own music,
redistribute or resell it. The license is for unlimited use in
virtually any situation produced by the purchaser.
Besides using the music for magic shows, customers
have used our music for videos, web sites,
presentations for school, corporate presentations,
etc. |

coming out soon and with that a quick and easy
method for registering your products. Until
that update is complete, please send us your name,

| Q.
What is the difference
in sound quality between your CD tracks vs. the
mp3's at The Download Store? |
|
Q.
Why are your mp3's in
.Zips files and not just...mp3's???? |
| A. Our
mp3's have been compressed at the highest rate
(320kb) for near-CD quality sound. To hear a
sample of this, the following 2 tracks are from the
'Imagination' CD. The first sample is the
original, uncompressed file ripped straight from the
CD; the second sample is the mp3 version, compressed
at 320kb. |
|
A.
There are two reasons:
First, it has to do with the technical requirements
of the shopping cart we use. Not to go into
specific details, but the first time we tried using
a simple streaming method, we found it to be
inconsistent with larger files. Second, most
of our 'New' and 'Multi-media' downloads have
multiple versions. For example: 'Spiritual
Glory' has 5 different versions/mixes; instead
of having you purchase all 5 versions separately,
we're able to pack them all into a single .zip file,
allowing you to make one simple purchase...this
keeps your costs (and ours) as low as possible. |

Imagination
Track 2 (.wav file) 10.9MB |
|
|
|
Imagination
Track 2 (.mp3 file) 2.4MB |
|
|
| Q.
How do I save/download
my files after I purchase them? |
|
|
| A. All
of our mp3 files are compacted into a .zip file that
must be extracted. Even single tracks are done
this way. Because of this, when you're done
with the purchase process, a pop-up window (like you
might see when downloading mp3 samples) does
not appear; instead, you are instructed to
click on the 'View Order' button, where you'll see a
general receipt, as well as the song(s) you've
purchased listed in the bottom left-hand corner.
Clicking on those songs will then bring-up that
familiar pop-up window, but instead of clicking
'OPEN', please choose to 'SAVE' (because you'll be
saving a .zip file, not an mp3). Upon
completing the download, you will then need to
extract the .zip file. to get the mp3. There
are instructions similar to this all along the way
during the purchase process. If you have any
problems, please contact us and we'll help you!
